WHAT IS A WEIGHTED LAP PAD FOR CHILDREN/ADULT?
Similar to a weighted blanket, but smaller, a weighted lap pad is a sensory tool that applies gentle, therapeutic deep touch on the legs of a child, whilst in a seated position.

Helps children calm down and focus better, weighted lap pads usually resemble a small padded blanket or pillow, filled with a weighted element plastic pellets.

With the 'Minky' textured fabric, you can also get extra sensory input from tactile exploration.

Weighted lap pads for kids are an increasingly popular sensory aid that help many children calm down and focus better, both at home and in the classroom.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF A WEIGHTED LAP PAD?

Many kids with autism, attention deficit and sensory processing disorders struggle with body awareness and find it hard to sense the position and movement of their body in relation to their surroundings (often termed proprioception). You may recognise this in your child as clumsiness, self stimulating behaviours such as rocking or fidgeting or an intense need for lots of running, jumping or rough play.

Specifically, weighted lap pads may help children to:
⦿ Self regulate and calm down
⦿ Focus better
⦿ Stay seated longer
⦿ Transition more smoothly between activities or tasks

Weighted lap pads are not usually recommended for children under the age of 3, plus a child should always be able to move a lap pad off their legs unaided. If unsure, always consult an occupational therapist or doctor.

General Care Guidelines:

Spot Clean First:
For small spills, use a damp cloth with mild soap. Gently dab the area rather than scrubbing to protect the fabric fibers.

Avoid Harsh Chemicals:
Never use bleach or fabric softeners. These can degrade the fabric and, in some cases, affect the integrity of the internal beads.

Cold Water Only:
Always use cold or lukewarm water (below 30°C) to prevent the filler from melting or clumping.

Avoid the dryer (Melting Risk):
Weighted lap pad are filled with plastic poly-pellets. The high heat of a dryer can melt these beads, causing them to clump together or even leak through the fabric.

Washing Instructions:

Drying Instructions:
Air drying flat is the safest method for weighted products.

• Lay Flat: Spread the lap pad on a clean, dry towel. Flip it every few hours to ensure even drying and to prevent the beads from shifting to one side.
• No Hanging: Never hang a wet weighted lap pad; the weight of the water and beads can stretch the fabric and strain the internal stitching.
• Tumble Dry (Caution): If the care label allows, use the lowest heat or "air fluff" setting. High heat can melt plastic poly pellets or damage the fabric's soft texture.
